OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego State Lakers split their twin bill of SUNYAC matchups against the Oneonta Red Dragons and the New Paltz Hawks.

Dragon Slaying: Lakers Take First SUNYAC Victory Over Oneonta

The Lakers opened their weekend of conference matchups with a big win over the Oneonta Red Dragons in a tightly contested 49-46 victory.

Shania Iglesias led the Lakers in points with 16 points in the game in 23 minutes of court time. Iglesias went 5/12 on field goals and 3/4 on free throws to add to her point total. Danielle Caivana and Diamond Pickett both contributed 8 points a piece in what was a score-by-committee effort from the Lakers. Pickett took 9 rebounds to help the Lakers maintain possession. Pickett also contributed 4 assists. The Oswego bench had a big day, contributing 26 points overall.

Olivia Dobrovosky led the Red Dragons with a strong 17 point day on the court. Dobrovosky went 8-15 on field goals while also picking up 10 rebounds on the day.  Amanda Zuntag contributed 10 points and 10 rebounds on the day. The Red Dragons were strong in the paint all day, with 24 of their points coming close to the net.

Hawks Fly To Victory Over Lakers

The New Paltz Hawks took a 62-57 triumph over the Oswego State Lakers on Saturday afternoon. The Lakers were hoping to get back-to-back SUNYAC wins, but the Lakers were forced to settle for a split-bill on the weekend.

Lexi Van Vorst led the way for New Paltz. Van Vorst scored 14 points and went 4/10 in field goals, while going 4/7 at the three point line. Cassidy Deaver grabbed 6 rebounds and went 2/2 on free throws.

Danielle Caivana capped a strong weekend with 19 points for the Lakers. Caivana went 4/5 from the three point line, 7/15 on field goals, and picked up 7 rebounds. Logan Castiglione scored 11 points, while grabbing six rebounds and adding five assists. Shania Iglesias also capped a strong weekend with 12 points.

The Lakers have to run the SUNYAC gauntlet in the coming weeks, starting off with SUNY Potsdam and Plattsburgh state at home next weekend. WNYO will have coverage of both games on Stream 2.
