OSWEGO, NY- Dragons were slayed in the Deborah F. Stanley Ice Arena and Convocation Hall on Wednesday night. The Oswego State Lakers took their third win over the Cortland Red Dragons by a final score of 4-0.
The Lakers dominated all three periods of hockey. The Lakers came out with fire right away, as early bird Alex DiCarlo got the worm. DiCarlo scored after only twenty-three seconds had passed in the first period, his fourteenth of the season. The goal was assisted by Connor Sleeth and Ryan Dickinson. 9 minutes later, Shane Bull stick-handled his way to a beautiful goal, his third of the season. Ryan Dickinson picked up his second assist of the night on the play.
The second period was a quiet, score-less and penalty-less affair. Steven Kozikoski shined all night long. He made strong saves in traffic, getting a 29-save post-season shutout in the process.
The third period saw the Lakers add to their tally. 1:43 into the first period, Tommy Cahill did the work all by himself for the Lakers’ third goal. At 18:08, as the Red Dragons desperately pulled Luca Durante out of his net, Tyler Flack iced the game with the Lakers’ fourth goal. Shane Bull and Tommy Cahill were credited with assists. It was the second point of the night for both players.
The Lakers return to the Ira S. Wilson Ice Arena for the SUNYAC Championship against the Geneseo Ice Knights. WNYO will have coverage of the game on 88.9FM in Oswego and worldwide on wnyo889.org/listen.
