WNYO is SUNY Oswego’s student-run radio station. We pride ourselves on being independent and having as little involvement from faculty at the school as possible. We have all kinds of opportunities here at the station but here are just a few that give you just a sampling of what exactly it is we do around here.
Since 1969 WNYO has given students the opportunity to explore the wonders of broadcast radio. What started out as a few students messing around in a dorm has grown into a large and important part of the Oswego community.
WNYO is first and foremost a radio station. We are a student-run, full power, FCC-licensed (and regulated) FM station broadcasting on 88.9 in the Oswego area.
We allow anyone, no matter their major or year, to have a show about whatever they want. We highly encourage having co-hosts so please invite your friends along.
Each DJ will be trained on how to write a radio rundown, what proper microphone technique is, how to voice track, how to use our console, and how to use our automation system. Each show is required to have a promo, while production elements like intros and segues are optional, but encouraged.
You may play any genre of music you like and talk about anything that is broadcast appropriate. From 10 pm until 6 am you can have a show that plays explicit music. This is because of an FCC provision known as Safe Harbor.
Popular show formats on WNYO are; Alternative, Hip-Hop, Entertainment-Talk, and Sports-Talk.

Be a part of the future of audio content. Podcasts are in and just about everyone has one. As a member of the WNYO Podcast Network, you are granted access to our professional-grade recording facilities, remote recording kits, and our editing suite. Podcasts can be weekly or bi-weekly and all you need to do is create content and we’ll handle the rest.
We submit your podcast to all major podcast platforms so listeners can find your podcast on their preferred one.
Unlike radio shows podcasts are 100% uncensored., within reason of course. Just like with the radio, however, you can have a podcast about whatever with whoever. Invite on a new guest every week, or have a cast of reoccurring friends, it’s totally up to you.
