MEN’S HOCKEY: Lakers Fall In Heartbreaker

ELMIRA, NY- It has not been a good Halloweekend for the Oswego State Lakers. The team took a loss in Oswego on Friday night to Hobart, and came very close to taking a win against the Elmira Soaring Eagles. However, the frightening start from the Lakers continued, as they fell 4-5 to Elmira in Elmira’s first home game of the season.

The Lakers’ first period play was a reminder of the Hobart game, where the team struggled early. Three Elmira goals from the first period seemed to stop Oswego’s hopes before they even started. Jordan Gonzalez, Bailey Krawczyk, and Adam Eby were the goal scorers for Elmira. Eby’s goal, a buzzer beater shot that got around Richie Parent, would end the period and Parent’s night in the goal.

Stephen Kozikoski came into the net in the second period for Oswego, and the beloved goalie’s return immediately seemed to light a fire in Oswego. The Lakers fired off three goals in the second period to even up the score. Josh LeBlanc started things off, with Jared Nash and Travis Broughman assisting. The second goal came from Conor Smart, who got on a breakaway to score his first collegiate goal. The tying goal came from Broughman, who scored on a power play with help from Alex DiCarlo and Jared Nash. It was Elmira, however, who skated off the ice with the momentum. Another buzzer-beater goal would put Elmira back up in the lead, with Jake Russo scoring.

The third period saw Alex DiCarlo get his first goal of the season with an assist from Connor Sleeth. It tied the game, but with 3 minutes to go in the period, Nicholas Domitrovic scored a pivotal goal to set the final score at 5-4.

Oswego hits the road next weekend to face off against Potsdam and Plattsburgh on November 5th and 6th. WNYO will have coverage of both of those games on 88.9FM and our online stream.
