OSWEGO, NY- The Oswego State Lakers field hockey team was looking for a big win on Tuesday night, as they look to secure a SUNYAC playoff spot with 3 back-to-back conference games to end their season. The team got the momentum they wanted to have into those games. They snapped their 5 game losing streak and took their first win of October against Nazareth College in a 6-0 romp.
The Lakers launched an offensive assault on Nazareth goalie Amanda Chuttey, who put forward a strong effort with 12 saves. Kacie Simzer put the first two goals on the board, with assisted by Abby Testo, Kaitlyn Mastracco, and Alyssa DeMichael. Leah Romanowski put the next two goals up for Oswego in the second and third periods. The goals were her first two of the season. Kaitlyn Mastracco wasn’t happy with just an assist, and put a goal of her own in with ten minutes left. With about five minutes to go, Kaitlyn Ahle put her third goal of the season in the net. Ahle was assisted on the play by Julia Heacock.
The Nazareth offense was led by Bailey Selman, who had 2 shots on goal for the Golden Flyers. Hannah Janes also contributed a shot on goal for Nazareth. Oswego’s goalie Erica Scheblein made all three saves in what was a quiet day in the net.
Moving into the coming weekend, Oswego has two critical road matches against SUNY Brockport and SUNY Oneonta in a heated battle for the fourth and final SUNYAC playoff spot. They will play SUNY Cortland in two weeks on October 27th for their final conference match. The team will then travel to Keuka College, where they will play their final regular season match. WNYO will have coverage of their final home game against Cortland on the 27th.
