Oswego, NY- On senior day, the Lakers battled but ultimately found themselves on the losing end of a hard-fought game vs. St. John Fisher.
Prior to the game, the Lakers held a ceremony commemorating all seven seniors on their roster. Among them were: Alyssa DeMichael, Jenna Rodgers, Leah Romanowski, Abby Testo, Emily Hunter, Julia Heacock, and Chloe Parks.
Once we reached game-time, Oswego got off to a fast start, scoring two consecutive goals. First on the board for the Lakers was Kacie Simzer, as she deposited a goal past St John Fisher goaltender, Sophia Trozzi. Just six minutes later, the Lakers would strike again, this time Kaitlyn Mastracco with the goal.
Entering the second quarter with a two goal lead, things looked good for the Lakers. However, two goals, two minutes apart spelled the end of Oswego’s lead. Scoring for the Cardinals was first Gianna Palma, followed by Abby Richardson.
The tie held all the way through regulation, as the Lakers headed to overtime for the first time this season. It didn’t take long for the game winner, as just 2 minutes and 6 seconds into overtime, Alyssa Andres put the game away, beating Laker goaltender Erica Scheblein between the legs.
Despite surrendering the game winning goal, goaltender Erica Scheblein was spectacular, making 18 saves in the loss.
The Lakers are back at it on the road Wednesday, as they open up SUNYAC play against Morrisville State at 7 p.m.
