The Oswego State Lakers Women’s Soccer team started their season with great success, as the Lakers took a 1-0 victory over the Cazenovia Wildcats.
The first event of the 2021 Oswego Athletic season saw the Lakers barrage Wildcat goalie Meghan McCarthy with 12 shots on goal. McCarthy had a solid day in the net as she held off 11 of the shots, but one goal was all it took to put the Wildcats away.
The goal came late in the event, with 78 minutes played, leaving only 12 minutes left in the 90 minute regulation time. Luigina Serrao broke the ice late in the game, sealing the only goal and game winner for the Lakers unassisted. Serrao had 3 shots on goal total, tied with Elizabeth Myers and Graisa Madden for the most shots on goal in the game.
Cazenovia had no answer for the Lakers’ strong offense. They failed to have a shot on goal and only managed to take 3 shots total in the entire game, which gave an easy day to the Lakers goalie Haley Muehl. Cazenovia only had 2 corner kicks as well, while Oswego had 13 corner kicks. It was a clean game for both teams, as no yellow or red cards were issued. Oswego led the way with 7 fouls, while Cazenovia only had 3 fouls.
The Lakers travel to SUNY Canton to face the Kangaroos on September 4th looking to improve to 2-0.
