BROCKPORT, NY- It is no secret that the Oswego State Lakers have been looking for a breakout win this season. They came close in Elmira, but did not prevail.
They got that win last night in Brockport, in a 2-1 triumph that saw the Lakers shake many of their early season woes away.
The Lakers immediately took care of two areas that they have struggled to do so far; scoring in the first period and on power plays. On a first period power play, Trent Grimshaw scored with assists coming from Connor Sleeth and Ben Addison. In the second period, on another power play, Rocco Andreacchi took his turn at cracking the Egg. Andreacchi fired a shot that got around Brockport goalie Nolan Egbert, with Grimshaw and Addison picking up assists on the play.
Ryan Romeo, Brockport’s lead defenseman and captain scored in the second period unassisted. However, despite a penalty-filled second and third periods, neither team put another puck in the net, securing a 2-1 win for Oswego. Steven Kozikoski shined in the net for Oswego, with multiple huge stops on a penalty kill that took up the last moments of the third period for Oswego.
Oswego comes home tonight to face off against the No.1 Geneseo Knights. Countdown to Faceoff starts at 6:00pm right here on WNYO 88.9fm and Stream 1, with the puck dropping inside the Deborah F. Stanley Arena and Convocation Center at 7:00pm.
