OSWEGO, NY- The Oswego State volleyball team was looking to take their first SUNYAC win of the season against Brockport on Saturday. Oswego was unable to prevail, as the Golden Eagles soared into a 3-0 match win over the Lakers inside the Max Ziel Gymnasium.
The Lakers struggled early, as Brockport raced out to a 5-0 lead in set one with 5 service aces from Kerri McHale, which set the tone for the match early. Brockport raced out to a lead in all 3 sets early; but Oswego rallied back to challenge Brockport around the midway point of the set. Brockport, however, went unfazed and rebounded to take a resounding victory, sweeping all 3 sets by scores of 25-17, 25-17, and 25-15.
Meaghan Mastro’s 18 kills led a dominant Brockport offensive, while Shelby Budnick’s 16 digs locked down the back of the court for Brockport.
It was a team affair for Oswego today, as many players were able to get kills on Brockport. Emma Fiorentine and Emily Ziesler led the way with 4 kills each. Skylar Bechard continued her strong senior season at libero with 10 digs for Oswego.
Oswego falls to 6-10 on the year, continuing a now 5-game losing streak. 4 of those matches came in SUNYAC competition. The Lakers travel to Aurora to face Wells College, before returning to SUNYAC play versus Oneonta in Oswego on October 15th.
