OSWEGO, N.Y.-In their first conference game, the Oswego State Volleyball team fell in a crucial match 3-0 against SUNY Cortland to move to 0-1 in SUNYAC play and 4-5 on the season overall.

SUNY Cortland dominated the affair, having more kills, assists, and digs than the Lakers. Hannah Southcott and Maya Owens led the way 10 kills for the Red Dragons. Ryan Hinshaw played Robin to their Batman with 26 assists for the team as well.

For Oswego, Cara Simplicio led the way 8 kills, with Emma Fiorentine and Sydney Chiffriller contributing 5 kills of their own. Kaylee Troy had 2 aces, with Skylar Bechard and Simplicio leading the defense with 11 kills.

Oswego’s best chance to take a set win came in the second set, as Oswego pulled within one point of SUNY Cortland. However, a timeout shifted momentum, with SUNY Cortland putting up four unanswered points to put out any challenge from Oswego.

The Oswego State Volleyball tournament is this weekend, as the Lakers face Elmira College, SUNY Canton, and St. John Fisher. These games will be on stream 1, so make sure you tune into WNYO Friday night and Saturday for our coverage of the tournament.
