OSWEGO, N.Y.- The Oswego State men’s soccer team took their first loss of the 2021 season in an overtime loss to Hamilton College after the Lakers tied the game in the second half.
The Lakers fought back from a 2-0 deficit after Spencer Royal put two goals in the net in two different fashions. The first goal trickled in after a miscue from the defense and goalie Brian Terra allowed Hamilton to steal a goal. Later, Royal took a hard shot on goal that went perfectly into the top left corner of the net, a very difficult ball for Terra to save. Just after Hamilton’s second score, a penalty kick by Caleb Munski put the Lakers on the board to drop the deficit to one goal.
Both teams would take shots on goal in the second half, but Oswego took the lone goal of the half after a Kyle Hanner breakaway caught Hamilton off guard. The game remained tied, forcing an overtime.
Overtime did not last long, however. A defensive miscommunication for Oswego allowed Spencer Royal to complete a hat trick and walk the game off for Hamilton.
Spencer Royal led the way for Hamilton, with 4 shots on goal and 3 goals on the day. Jude Rouhana’s 6 shots and 2 shots on goal also boosted the Hamilton offense.
Oswego’s offense was a full team effort. Kyle Gehnrich, Derek Rivera, and HaJoon Lee had a shot on goal each in addition to Munski and Hanner’s goals. Brian Terra rebounded from a difficult first half to make five saves.
Men’s Soccer is on the road next week, as they take on the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) next Saturday, before returning home to play against Ithaca.
