OSWEGO, NY – It was a tense Monday afternoon inside the Marano Campus Center as the Men’s Basketball team waited for their seeding for the NCAA DIII Men’s Basketball Tournament. The Lakers had done everything they needed to do to not only win the SUNYAC Championship in dominant fashion, but also potentially host the Round of 64 and the Round of 32 in the Max Ziel Gymnasium.
The Lakers took the SUNYAC Championship in dominant fashion. In the semifinal, the Lakers thrashed the New Paltz Hawks by a score of 94-60. The Hawks, who beat the Lakers in their last matchup, had no answer as the Lakers were up by 26 before the end of the first half. The Oneonta Red Dragons also had no answer for the Lakers. Oneonta’s hope for their first ever SUNYAC Championship crumbled as the Lakers won 81-60 in a dominant Oswego performance. With these two massive wins, the Lakers hoped that they could host the regionals for the NCAA Tournament.
However, the Lakers will be on the road for the tournament. The Lakers will travel to Philadelphia to play Hood College in the Round of 64. If the Lakers win, they will face the winner of Keene State and Swathmore. Pat Coleman of d3hoops.com said a matchup between Oswego and tournament host Swathmore could be a “juicy matchup”. Coleman, who was on today’s selection show, called Oswego’s season in the SUNYAC “almost unmatched”. The Lakers will hope to add at least two more wins to their 25-2 record to make a run at the NCAA Championship.
