OSWEGO,NY- The Oswego State women’s soccer and field hockey teams both faced off against SUNYAC opponents on a rather warm October afternoon. Both teams were looking for big SUNYAC wins, but both teams fell to their opponents.

First up was the women’s soccer team, who celebrated Senior Day. Anastasia Mascaro, Graisa Madden, Maggie Riordan, Liz Meyers, and Olivia Williams were all recognized as they prepare to close the chapter on their collegiate athletic career.

The game got off to a fast start, with Fredonia’s Brianna Grazen scoring just 5 minutes into regulation. It became the final goal of the game, as both teams were unable to score in the second period of regulation. Fredonia had 7 shots on goal compared to Oswego’s 9. Sabrina Suriani was crucial in Fredonia’s victory, successfully saving all 9 attempts by Oswego to score. For Oswego, Luigina Serrao had 4 shots on goal, with Katie Delgrosso contributing three. Liz Meyers celebrated her senior day with 2 shots on goal of her own.

The team fell to 2-2 in the SUNYAC and 5-3 overall. Next weekend features two more SUNYAC matchups against SUNY Brockport and SUNY Geneseo on the road. They play Brockport on October 8th; they return to action the next day against Geneseo on October 9th.

At 4:00pm, the Oswego State field hockey team had their own SUNYAC matchup against New Paltz. Oswego fell to New Paltz in a 4-1 game score.

New Paltz flew out to an early lead, as Morgan Woolley and Hannah Ackerman put two goals up for the Hawks in the first six minutes. Woolley’s goal was the first of her career. She followed up her first with her second, putting in her second goal in the first minute of the third period. Hannah Ackerman also scored again with 7 minutes remaining, after an Oswego goal made the score 3-1.

The Oswego goal was scored by Nancy Pagliaroli, her fifth of the season. She was assisted by Jenna Rogers in the lone scoring effort from Oswego on the day overall.

The New Paltz offense barraged Oswego goalie Erica Scheblein with 16 shots on goal in the game. Scheblein managed an impressive twelve saves on the day. Oswego managed six shots on goal of their own. Many fouls were called in the game. New Paltz finished with 33 fouls, while Oswego finished with 41. The fouls added up, as 15 penalty corners by New Paltz contributed to their success.

Field Hockey returns to action at Laker Turf Stadium on Tuesday, when they host St. Lawrence at 5:00pm, with coverage provided by WNYO.
